On April 22nd, 2025 I attended the lunchtime lecture by Rosalind Koon. From her lecture I learned about her unique style of sculpture as well as how to make it and what influenced her work. Her sculptures tend to have a biological aspect to them and color to express the process of creating them, which ultimately relates to her life. What surprised me the most is how she makes her sculptures. She uses "cheap" and accessible materials but combines them in a way to make the most beautiful sculptures with a process that is just as fun. Her pieces are really interesting due to their vibrant colors and interesting tubing that seems to be a symbol in her sculptures (influenced by an illness she experienced). I wonder what she feels when making these sculptures? Does she enjoy the process or the final product more, or are both pleasant overall? Her work definitely intrigued me and from it I would love to attempt to make something similar!
