The career I chose is a fashion designer. A fashion designer is an artist that designs and creates clothing, shoes, and accessories. Some responsibilities needed for this career may include, but not limited to, the ability to use CAD (computer-aided design) programs, extensive knowledge on usages of fabrics and materials, and being detail oriented. In addition to this, to be able to have a career in fashion designing, at least a bachelor's degree in a fine arts or business field (like fashion design or fashion merchandising) is recommended/required. After receiving the necessary education it's crucial to have specific skills like lots of creativity, drawing proficiency, design proficiency, communication skills, and trend awareness as these are important and specific to this type of career.
For looking to pursue this career the best majors/programs to prepare you is a major in fashion merchandising, fashion journalism, and fashion styling (which seems most interesting). All of these are majors that relate to fashion and that will help teach you skills to jump-start you on your fashion designing career. Some of the best schools that offer an exceptional program for fashion design include Fashion Institute of Technology (New York), Parsons: Fashion, Art and Design School (New York), and Westphal College of Media Arts & Design (Philadelphia). All of these colleges would be ideal for trying to get a career in fashion design due to their specified programs and overall teaching capabilities.
