Rachel Wolfson Smith is an American Artist based in Amsterdam. She is well known for her large scale graphite drawings, specifically of landscapes. According to her LinkedIn profile she states that "My large-scale graphite drawings use mark-making and erasure as metaphors for beauty, chaos, and care, reflecting not only the natural world but the emotional landscapes of women like myself.". Her works are guided by nature, and such practices reconnect her with the nature within all of us. Her drawings are artifacts and representations of her ongoing and beautiful evolution.

Some Examples of her work:
“The World Without Us,”

Another History
Graphite on handmade paper, 13” x 13” / 28 × 28 cm
No One Will Remember We Were Here. (2020)
Graphite and pigment on paper, 6 x 12 feet
These pieces are all so pleasing to view. Despite each one being a landscape all of them share different qualities which make them more unique. I also really love how detailed the landscapes are and how her works usually have a added element to it. Such as the white erasure in the first one or the figure in the third. My favorite of the three is probably “The World Without Us,” because the work is beautifully drawn to show the realistic leaves yet also showcases a disruption between them which is meant to represent human impact on nature. I also really interesting in the graphite medium which is why I chose this artist. As well as her art style intrigued me and I hope to use some of it in my own work.
